Bhavnagar (Gujarat): Burqa-clad girls depicted as terrorists in an Independence Day play at a government school !

The administration is investigating, after Muslims protest

Bhavnagar (Gujarat) – Muslims objected to some burqa clad girls being portrayed as terrorists in a play presented at a municipal school on August 15, the independence day. This is now being investigated. The event was held at Abdul Kalam Primary School No. 51 of Kumbharwada area of Bhavnagar city.

Bhavnagar District Education Officer Hitendra Singh Padheria has issued a notice to Munjal Badmalia, administrative officer of the School Board of Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, asking him to submit an objective report of the programme conducted in the school within seven days. The notice was issued following a complaint by ‘The Bandharan Bachao Samiti’ of Bhavnagar. The committee has demanded action against the teacher who directed the play.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Those who claim that ‘terrorists do have religion’ while declaring Hindus as terrorists, and claim that ‘terrorists do not have religion’ when jihadis terrorise; only those will oppose such events ! Why did the concerned think of portraying burqa-clad girls as terrorists in this way ? Will those opposing ever answer this ?
  • Unless we accept the objective fact that terrorism belongs to only this religion, can this country ever be free from terrorism ? This needs to be contemplated upon by the system, as well as the public !
