Mumbai, July 9 – BJP MLA Prashant Bamb made a serious allegation in the Legislative Assembly on July 9 that some schools in the state have obtained ‘minority’ status by providing false information to avail government benefits. On this, Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse announced in the House that ‘a special campaign will be launched to investigate this matter and a committee will be formed for the purpose’.

To obtain ‘minority’ status, a school must have at least 50 percent minority students. Some schools in the state have been given ‘minority’ status despite the small number of minority students. Especially in Amravati and Mumbai, minority schools do not have even 10 to 20 percent minority students. After obtaining the status of a minority school, posts can be filled based on seniority, and people from other communities other than the backward classes do not get reservation. Therefore, some schools have obtained minority status on the basis of false information. This is causing great loss to the government,’ said Prashant Bamb.
