Tensions in Turkey over Prophet Muhammad’s cartoon published in a weekly

3 cartoonists arrested

Ankara (Turkey) – Tensions erupted in Turkey after a cartoonist published Prophet Muhammad’s cartoon in the cartoon weekly ‘Lemon’. The Police have arrested three cartoonists in connection with the case.

1. The cartoon, drawn against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Iran, shows two figures named ‘Muhammed’ and ‘Musa’ shaking hand in the sky, over a city destroyed by bombings. The city is burning below. Missiles are shown on the ground.

2. Muslims allege that these two are Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Moses. After this, protests were held in many parts of the country, and the Police arrested 3 cartoonists.

3. The weekly says that the purpose of this cartoon is to highlight the suffering of a Muslim man killed in Iran during an Israeli attack. Tunca Akgun, the editor-in-chief of the weekly, said that the name ‘Muhammed’ in the cartoon has nothing to do with the Prophet Muhammad. There are millions of people named ‘Muhammed’ around the world. The purpose of the cartoon was not to mock religious values.
