New Delhi – Renowned lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar offered insightful perspectives on India-Pakistan relations and recent political developments in a recent appearance on NDTV. Akhtar emphasised that the Pahalgam terrorist attack should be viewed not merely as an assault on the Government but as an attack on India as a whole, highlighting the importance of a unified national response to such challenges. When US President Trump wanted to talk to Pakistan, he could have spoken to the President or Prime Minister, but he knew where the real power was, so he called their Army Chief Asim Munir. This made it clear that their democracy is a facade and the army rules the country. So, how would good relations with India be favourable for them.

Speaking about the current state of India-Pakistan relations, Akhtar acknowledged that while the present situation might appear to be at its lowest point due to recent events, similar challenging phases have occurred throughout history.

Pakistan’s pattern of denial in military conflicts has remained consistent since 1948. Whether it was claiming tribal infiltration in Kashmir in 1948, feigning ignorance during the 1965 war, denying involvement in the Kargil conflict, or disavowing knowledge of the Pahalgam attack, their strategy remains unchanged.

He provided a nuanced analysis of Pakistan’s internal dynamics, noting that there exists a significant portion of Pakistani citizens who genuinely desire friendly relations with India. However, he pointed out that these aspirations are consistently hindered by Pakistan’s military establishment and government, which maintain an adversarial stance.

Editorial Perspective

Will the so-called democracy-loving Muslims in India understand this and express gratitude towards Indian democracy ? Or will they continue to sing praises of Pakistan ?
