Muslims threaten Hindus and demolish Shri Durgadevi Temple in Dhaka, the Capital of Bangladesh

Indian Govt criticises Bangladesh Govt for not providing security to the temple

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Shri Durgadevi Temple on railway’s land was demolished in Dhaka, the Capital of Bangladesh. Muslims had given a certain time limit to Hindus for removing the temple from that place a few days ago and warned that they would demolish it if it was not removed. Accordingly, the railway administration demolished the temple due to the pressure of Muslims. The External Affairs Ministry of India has reacted to this incident.

1. Muslims had asked Hindus to demolish the temple by 12 noon on 24.06.2025 and warned that they would demolish it if no action was taken by Hindus. The local Hindus asked Khilkhet Police for protection; but the administration extended no help.

2. On 26.06.2025, the temple was demolished as per the orders of the Deputy Commissioner of Bangladesh Railway’s Dhaka division and divisional estate officer Mohammad Nasiruddin Mahamood.

3. A large number of Hindu men and women were present at the place of incident when the temple was being demolished and they could not control their tears. The army from Purvanchal Army camp in Dhaka and Police Force was summoned for demolishing the temple and a bulldozer was brought. The army drove away the Hindus who were protesting.

4. Hindus had requested the administration to grant permission for taking out Ratha Yatra and postpone the demolition of the temple; however, the administration paid no heed to their request.

5. Hindus were not allowed to take out the idol before demolition of the temple. As a result, the idols of Shri Kalimata and Deity Shiva were vandalised. The puja material and other religious things were also destroyed. The temple was more than 50 years old.

Protection of Hindus, their properties and religious institutions is the responsibility of the interim Government of Bangladesh !

Randhir Jaiswal

The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal stated that it was learnt that terrorists were demanding demolition of Shri Durga Mandir at Khilkhet in Dhaka. The interim Government instead of providing protection to the temple, changed the direction of the incident by claiming that the temple was built on illegal land. The Government granted permission to demolish the temple. It has been damaged even before the idols were taken out. Such incidents are happening again and again in Bangladesh. We are disappointed about it. It is the duty of the interim Government of Bangladesh to protect Hindus, their properties and their religious institutions. We have been waiting for Bangladesh to solve the long pending fundamental problems. These points were raised by India in many meetings and also in meetings of the trade secretaries.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray had warned to stop Haj yatra if there was an attack on Amarnath yatra in India a few decades ago and there was no attack during Amarnath yatra that year. Hindus feel that had he been alive now, he would have warned that religious places of fanatics would not be safe in India if Hindus’ temples were attacked in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • Hindus are being oppressed for many decades in Bangladesh and they are being killed; but India never took these things seriously earlier, nor is it taking these things seriously even now which is very sad for Hindus; whereas Islamic countries unite for Muslims and raise their voice against anything happening against them in the world.
The intention behind sharing these photos/videos is not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, but to highlight the mockery made by anti-Hindu elements. – Editor
