Pune (Maharashtra) – Members of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANIS)—who consistently insult Hindu Deities, Saints, and places of worship, and who don’t even believe in the existence of God—have entered the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage (Wari) under the deceitful name of ‘Samvidhan Samata Dindi’.
Those who deny the miraculous bodily ascension of Saint Tukaram Maharaj to Vaikuntha, and who reject the miracle of Tukaram Gatha floating on water, are now seen participating in his palkhi (palanquin) procession. To cover up their hypocrisy, these atheist and so-called progressive elements are using the banner of ‘Samvidhan Samata Dindi’. Interestingly, some who participated in this Dindi in the past have criminal records linked to Naxalite activities.
The Samvidhan Samata Dindi has issued a circular announcing its journey from Pune to Pandharpur from June 21 to July 6, 2025. Most of the people listed as ‘coordinators’ are either ANIS members or affiliated with its activities. Interestingly, the publicity for the Dindi is being done on social media by ANSS office bearers and volunteers. Recently, so-called kirtankar (devotional performer) Balakrishna Vasant Gadkar, affiliated with ANIS, questioned in his discourse the bodily ascension of Saint Tukaram Maharaj and the miracle of his Gatha floating in the Indrayani River. Others affiliated with ANIS are also joining the Dindi while claiming to be devotees (HBP), but are actually pushing an atheist agenda by selectively using Saints’ abhangas.
Here’s the proof of Naxalite involvement
In 2022, under the slogan ‘Experience the Wari, at least for a day’, Sheetal Sathe, an activist from the leftist Kabir Kala Manch, participated in the initiative to spread constitutional values. However, in 2013, Sheetal Sathe was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for alleged links with Maoists. Her husband Sachin Mali was also named in the case. Both had surrendered before the Court and were arrested.
ANIS previously tried to label the Wari as superstition
During the Congress-led coalition Government in Maharashtra, ANIS President Dr Narendra Dabholkar had pushed for the Anti-Superstition Law starting from 2004. The draft was created with help from the Congress, and it included a clause defining any act causing ‘physical, economic, or mental harm’ as superstition. Knowing that Warkaris (devotees) endure physical hardship by walking to Pandharpur, ANIS deliberately included this clause in the law. The law also categorised miracles as superstition—thus including events like Saint Tukaram’s abhangas floating, Saint Dnyaneshwar making a buffalo recite the Vedas, and making a wall walk. This led to a statewide protest by Warkaris, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, and other devout Hindu organisations, forcing the Government to drop these objectionable clauses. Now, having failed through legislation, the same ANIS members are infiltrating the Wari itself to push their anti-devotional agenda.
Ban ANIS for its links to Naxalism : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti![]() Before adopting the name Maharashtra ANIS (MANS), this group functioned under the name Maharashtra Manavi Nastik Manch (Maharashtra Humanist Atheist Forum). Due to lack of public support, they rebranded themselves with the more appealing name. However, several instances of fraud and corruption have surfaced. Last month, one of their activists was caught involved in Naxal activities in Dongaon, Raigad District. Previously, ANIS activists linked to Naxalism were arrested in Gondia and Nagpur. Sunil Ghanwat, State Organiser of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti for Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, demanded that this organisation—which supports Naxalism and engages in Urban Naxal activity—be banned, and that a permanent administrator be appointed to oversee it. |
