Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh) – In the Muslim-majority village of Chhota Pura, around 40 Hindu families have put up “House for Sale” boards outside their homes. These families say they feel unsafe.
They allege that they are constantly harassed by some local Muslims and even face threats of rape, but the police are not taking their complaints seriously. On June 3, during a wedding ceremony, a group of Muslim youths allegedly misbehaved with some women, which led to a fight between the two sides. About 20 people were injured, and 10 have been arrested. The situation in the village remains tense.
During the wedding, a group of Muslim youths arrived and started recording videos of Hindu women without their permission. When some Hindu guests objected, the youths allegedly abused them and misbehaved with the women. The frightened women shouted for help, forcing their male relatives to step in. This led to a physical fight between the two sides.
“Women and girls can’t even step out of their homes!” – allege Hindu families
Rakesh Kannoujiya, Brijesh Gond, Ram Awadh, and many other Hindu families in the village claim that some people from the Muslim community roam around threatening them regularly.
They say the June 3 incident wasn’t a one-time issue but part of ongoing harassment. For the past few months, whenever they play devotional songs, use DJ music atweddings, or take part in cultural celebrations, they face threats and abuse. Even chanting “Jai Shri Ram” has become a problem.
According to them, women and girls are afraid to go outside. They are harassed and threatened.
“We’ve complained many times, but nothing happens. We’ve requested police protection and strict action against the culprits, but there has been no result. That’s why we’ve decided to sell our homes. At least, we can live peacefully somewhere else”, the families said.
“We are ensuring the safety of Hindus” – Police
Azamgarh’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Madhuvan Kumar Singh, said, “We have received information that some families are thinking about moving out. We are reaching out to them and assuring full protection.” Mubarakpur Police Station in- charge, Nihan Nandan, said, “After the June 3 incident, we’ve increased patrolling in the area to maintain peace.”
However, despite the police’s promises, most Hindu families still don’t feel secure. They ask, “Where was this protection earlier? Why did we have to protest just to get the administration’s attention?”
Editorial PerspectiveIf this is happening in Uttar Pradesh under Yogi Adityanath’s government, it’s hard to imagine how Hindus live in Muslim-majority areas of other states. This shows why a Hindu Rashtra is needed to change the situation. |
