Pune Agitation against Dargah – ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj’ stages demonstrations in front of Fadgate Police Station

Pune – There is encroachment by four dargahs located in Guruwar Peth. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should take immediate action against them and take back the reserved lands, was the demand made by BJP Legislative Council MLA Yogesh Tilekar. Demonstrators, led by MLA Tilekar, blocked the road by squatting on the road, in front of the Fadgate Police Station on Shivaji Road. Members of more than 50 Shri Ganesh Mandal participated in the demonstrations.

The encroached lands belong to the vegetable market and since the past 40 years, there has been encroachment on these places. We demand the PMC to take back these places under their control, informed Mr Tilekar. (Editorial Perspective : Action should also be taken against the chiefs of these dargahs. ) Memoranda were submitted to the PMC Commissioner even earlier for removing
these encroachments; but no action has been taken so far; therefore, such demonstrations have to be staged, clarified ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj’.

PMC’s action only against one religion is unjust – Former municipal corporator Gafur Pathan

The action taken by PMC against mosques, madarasas and dargahs in the city is totally against the stand of secularism. The action is taken only against Muslim religious places. There are more than 10,000 unauthorised religious places in the city but concentrating and taking action only against one religion is wrong. This action is being taken under the pressure created by pro-Hindu activists, accused former municipal corporator Gafur Pathan and he warned of staging agitations against such action. A memorandum has been submitted to the Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale in this regard.
