Threat for applying ‘Tilak’ in a Muslim predominant area

Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) – Hindu Jagaran Manch city convenor, Suraj Mahawar, was beaten up by Asim Qureshi taking objection to his applying ‘Tilak’ on forehead and he was even threatened with life for the same. Pro-Hindu organisations condemned the incident and ‘gheraoed’ Jaora Police Station, demanding strict action against the accused. Pro-Hindu organisations also warned to stage intense agitations if action was not taken within 24 hours. (Editorial Perspective : Why do pro-Hindu organisations have to stage such agitations ?)

1. On 23.05.2025, Hindu Jagaran Manch city convenor, Suraj Mahawar, was passing through the Mughalpura area of Jaora when Asim Qureshi confronted him for applying ‘Tilak’ on his forehead. Qureshi not only thrashed him but also threatened to shoot him.

2. This incident was recorded in the CCTV fixed in the area. Asim Qureshi told Mr Mahawar, “This is Muslim area. Don’t come here with ‘Tilak’. I have a pistol at home. I will shoot you.” Then he slapped Mr Mahawar and pushed him.

3. Jaora Superintendent of Police (SP) Durgesh Armo informed that a case has been filed against Asim Qureshi, his parents and sister and further investigations are on.
