Crackdown on illegal madarasas and Mosques along the Nepal border in UP

80 madarasas sealed

Pilibhit (UP) – The Yogi Adityanath-led Government in Uttar Pradesh has once again launched a crackdown on illegal madarasas and mosques along the Nepal border. Several madarasas have been sealed, and many have been demolished using bulldozers. Action has also been taken against some mosques.

1. The Yogi Government has initiated a special campaign in districts adjoining the Nepal border. Under this initiative, encroachments within a 15-kilometre radius of the border are being targeted. Structures were not vacated despite official warnings, and they are being demolished using bulldozers.

2. In Shravasti District, which borders Nepal, 68 madrasas have been shut down. Authorities have evacuated 164 madrasas, and repeated notices are being sent to many of them. In Balrampur District, 16 illegal madrasas have been closed. An additional 18 religious structures are illegal, and action is ongoing against them. Proceedings are also underway against an Eidgah.

3. In Siddharthnagar District, 17 illegal madarasas and 4 unauthorised religious sites have been identified, and action is in progress. In Bahraich, 6 madarasas have been sealed.

4. In Maharajganj, 34 madarasas have been issued notices, of which 2 have been demolished using bulldozers. In Pilibhit, 7 madarasas have received notices. A total of 77 unauthorised religious sites have also been found here.

5. Uttar Pradesh shares a long border with Nepal. In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of madarasas and mosques in the border areas. Many of these have been constructed by encroaching on land. This has even led to demographic changes in several villages.

Editorial Perspective

Was the administration asleep while so many illegal madarasas and mosques were being constructed ? Action must also be taken against the officials responsible !
