Pakistan shields terror outfit ‘The Resistance Front’

UN Resolution condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam

New Delhi – In a shocking and shameless admission, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar acknowledged in the Pakistani Parliament that he had ensured the name of the terrorist organisation ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF) — responsible for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam — was removed from the United Nations Security Council’s condemnation resolution. Pakistan is currently one of the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, elected for two-year terms. For any resolution to be adopted by the Security Council, all member states must give their consent. Pakistan exploited this rule to shield the terrorists.

TRF is a terrorist organisation linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. It initially claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam but later withdrew its claim. India has not yet officially named TRF as responsible for the attack.

In the Pakistani Parliament, Ishaq Dar said :

1. A resolution condemning the Pahalgam terrorist attack was presented at the UN Security Council. The resolution referred specifically to Pahalgam but not to Jammu and Kashmir, to which Pakistan objected. The draft resolution blamed TRF for the attack. Pakistan did not agree to this and therefore refused to sign it.

2. We instructed our permanent representative at the UN to oppose the resolution unless it included Jammu and Kashmir along with Pahalgam, and to ensure that TRF’s name was dropped from the text.

3. We received calls from several countries asking why were changes being made to the resolution. But Pakistan stood firm and had the resolution altered to drop TRF’s name.

4. ‘If TRF was involved in the attack, where is the evidence ?’, Dar questioned, arguing that an organisation should not be named in such a resolution without proof. He also emphasized that TRF had not claimed responsibility for the attack. The minister’s statement clearly revealed that Pakistan made every effort to shield the terrorist organisation.
