Retd Lt Gen DP Pandey urges Supreme Court judges to visit Kashmir and see firsthand what our forces endure

Judicial interventions is hampering the fight against terror

New Delhi – The Supreme Court has, on several occasions, intervened in matters related to national security, which has caused delays in decisions taken by the Government and the military. Such judicial interventions impact the ability to combat terrorism. Therefore, the judges of the Supreme Court should visit Kashmir and witness the conditions under which security forces operate. They should also observe the actual effects of terrorism on the ground. This is the advice given by retired Lieutenant General DP Pandey of the Indian Army to the Supreme Court. He was speaking in an interview on a podcast by the news agency ANI.

Key points presented by DP Pandey,

1. Kashmir is not a Courtroom where everything is decided through logic and rules. Lives are at risk every moment there. Go there and witness the extent of the inhumanity of terrorists, only then will the judiciary truly understand the country’s security policies.

2. The Supreme Court has, at times, halted or delayed decisions that are directly necessary to tackle terrorism. The Government and the military should be allowed to take decisions on national security matters openly and freely.

3. This is the time to come together to eliminate terrorism, without getting entangled in political or legal complexities.

If that money was spent on Bihar instead of Kashmir, it would have progressed

The Government has spent significantly to shape what Kashmir is today. Education and healthcare services were being provided to the people there. If the same amount had been invested in Bihar, the State would have progressed much further by now.
