Demands raised during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka

Colombo (Sri Lanka) – During his 3-day visit to Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of Indian fishermen detained by Sri Lankan authorities in a bilateral meeting with President Anura Kumar Dissanayake.Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the matter concerns the livelihoods of Indian fishermen, and urged for their immediate release along with their boats. He stated that both nations agree on handling the issue in a humanitarian manner, reaffirming the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation.

Hope for Tamil Hindu rights to be upheld in Sri Lanka
On the issue of Tamil Hindus in Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that the Sri Lankan government will meet the aspirations of the Tamil community and fully implement the rights guaranteed to them under the Sri Lankan Constitution.
Prime Minister Modi honoured with ‘Mitra Vibhushan’ award

Earlier, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake conferred the prestigious ‘Mitra Vibhushan’ award on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is Sri Lanka’s highest civilian honour for non-citizens. Previously, notable leaders such as Palestinian figures Mahmoud Abbas and Yasser Arafat have also received this honour.
