Prime Minister Modi met Muhmad Yunus at the BIMSTECSummit

Bangkok (Thailand) – On the 3rd of April Prime Minster Modi spoke to the Interim Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh’s Muhmad Yunus at the BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi- Sectoral Technical and Economic Co-operation) Summit. This was the first time Prime Minister Modi and Muhamad Yunus met after last Year’s Bangladesh Coup. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishra said that in the meeting Prime Minister Modi asked Muhamad Yunus to hold election in Bangladesh at the earliest.
Mishra further added at the Press Conference that Modi said ‘Elections are an extremely important part of a democracy. Hope that Bangladesh will soon have a democratic stable government. And also it is hoped that statements that can spoil the relations between the countries are avoided.’
Met Mr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh. India remains committed to a constructive and people-centric relationship with Bangladesh.

The safety of minorities was discussed

Both the leaders discussed the condition of the minorities. Prime Minister openly discussed this issue in the meeting. Yunus assured that Bangladesh government will fulfil its responsibility.
