Nandurbar, Maharashtra – In Mothe Kadwan, Nawapur, NandurbarDistrict, Kisan Pachya Valvi was attacked and assaulted by Christians with intent to kill after he opposed the “Joint Sanjeevani Sabha” organised under the ‘Evangelical Alliance Christian Church Trust, Chinchpada Council.’ Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, demanding action against the accused individuals, as well as the officials and employees who aided them. (Why does such a situation arise where a memorandum must be submitted ? Why don’t the Police act proactively ? What is the use of such inactive Police ? – Editor) The event itself was reportedly organised illegally.

In its memorandum, the VHP has stated,

1. Kisan Pachya Valvi suffered serious injuries in the attack, yet no action has been taken against the perpetrators. Instead, the Police, without investigation, have unjustly filed a false case against him.

2. While Kisan was receiving treatment at a Government hospital, his statement was recorded in his family’s absence and directly submitted to the District Collector.

3. The same officer investigating the case against Kisan also recorded his statement. Did he understand the tribal language spoken by Kisan Valvi ? Was the statement recorded as per Kisan’s words, or was it manipulated to protect the accused ? These questions raise serious doubts about Police conduct, and hence, an inquiry should be conducted through the Home Ministry.

4. Kisan had repeatedly filed complaints with the Police and administration regarding illegal church constructions and unauthorised religious gatherings in the village, yet no action was taken. This inaction led to the attack on Kisan.

5. A departmental inquiry should be conducted against Police and Revenue officials, and those found guilty of dereliction of duty should be suspended.

6. The Christian supporters involved in the life-threatening attack should be arrested immediately.

If these demands are not met, democratic protests will be launched against the Police, Revenue, and Health Departments. The memorandum was submitted to the administration by Fulibai Kisan Valvi, Shyam Narayan Gavit, Gopal Kisan Bunkar, Dhondiram Mahadev Shinkar, and Virendra Valvi.

Editorial Perspective

How was the gathering organised despite lacking official permission ? Action must be taken against those responsible.
