No smearing Holi colour without consent in Hyderabad, Telangana; Violators to be punished

Ban on two-wheelers and other vehicle movements

Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, C.V. Anand

Hyderabad (Telangana) – The Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, C.V. Anand, has issued orders regarding the celebration of Holi. The order states that throwing coloured powder (gulal) or coloured water on individuals, places, or vehicles that are not partaking in Holi celebrations may cause inconvenience. Additionally, the movement of two-wheelers and other vehicles on the roads has been banned. Violation of this order will result in action under Section 76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act, which may lead to a fine of ₹50, imprisonment for up to 8 days, or both. According to the law, the penalty may extend to imprisonment for up to one month or a fine of up to ₹100, or both. This directive has sparked controversy in the city. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty has also issued a similar order.

Why no restrictions on Eid ? BJP alleges discrimination

The BJP has criticised this order. The Telangana branch of BJP posted on its X (formerly Twitter) account, questioning why there are no restrictions or bans on celebrating Eid while imposing such curbs on Holi.

Congress Govt’s CM Revanth Reddy is the 9th Nizam : MLA T. Raja Singh

MLA T. Raja Singh

T. Raja Singh, a devout Hindu leader and a BJP MLA from Goshamahal, Hyderabad, condemned the order saying that since the Congress Government came to power in Telangana, Hindu temples have been attacked, and efforts are being made to impose restrictions on Hindu festivals. He pointed out that earlier, the Congress Government had banned the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hyderabad’s lakes and issued guidelines restricting Diwali celebrations. However, despite large gatherings and late-night events during Ramzan, no such restrictions were imposed. He further added, ‘The Chief Minister of the State says, ‘I am not the 8th but the 9th Nizam’, because the 8th Nizam was KCR (former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao). The habit of the Nizams was to oppress Hindus and ban Hindu festivals, and this Government is continuing that legacy’.

Editorial Perspective

It would not be incorrect to say that, through this order, the Congress Government has deliberately engineered a situation whereby the Police will be compelled to take action on false charges brought by Muslims against Hindus.
