‘Repeal the unjust Waqf Act’ : Dr Anand Ranganathan

  • Bold demand by staunch pro-Hindutva intellectual and scientist Dr Anand Ranganathan

  • His statement comes as a reaction to the violent protests by Muslims against the amendments to the Waqf Act

Dr Anand Ranganathan

New Delhi –“Through the Waqf Act, the Waqf Board grabbed lakhs of acres of land, including Government land, temple land, and private land. Such dark, oppressive, and unjust laws should not be amended, but should be repealed. Don’t amend the Waqf Act, but repeal it,”demanded devout Hindutva intellectual and scientist Dr Anand Ranganathan. He was speaking at a seminar organized by an English news channel. “I am not opposed to the Waqf Board, but to the Waqf Act. There are numerous boards and NGOs, and so is the Waqf Board,” Dr. Ranganathan clarified.

Dr Ranganathan further said,

1. Recall the scary movement of Shaheen Bagh

While everyone has the right to protest, no one has the right to stop something. Recall the protest at Shaheen Bagh. Hateful fanatics had illegally blocked the roads there, causing inconvenience to lakhs of people. They had no logical reason behind it. They did it just to show their power and they raised slogans like ‘Tera-Mera Rishta Kya La-Ila-Illallah’ (There is only Allah, there is no other God); ‘Freedom from Hindus’, ‘Freedom from Kafirs’, ‘We will take Jinnah’s freedom’, ‘Hindutva’s grave will be dug up’.

2. If a protest like ‘Shaheen Bagh’ happens again, the Union Government will be solely responsible for it

Muslims are threatening to stage a Shaheen Bagh-like protest against the amendments to the Waqf Act; but I will not blame them. I will hold Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah responsible for this. The first time (in 2020), they failed to stop the Shaheen Bagh protest. Now, if they fail again, we must accept that we are a weak country that bows down to the opposition (‘street veto’) of the community on the streets.

3. Recall that the Islamic pledge was written in place of the Ashoka Chakra on the national flag

Do you remember the protest in Telangana in 2020 by Muslims in which they wrote ‘Shahada’ in place of the Ashoka Chakra on the national flag? (Shahada is an Islamic pledge, which states that one should have faith in Allah alone.) Do you remember the children saying, ‘We will shoot Modi and Shah and kill them’ ?

4. The entire Indian subcontinent will come under the rule of Waqf as ‘one country’

Under the name of Waqf Act, the Waqf Board claimed first a 1,500-year-old temple, then an entire village in Bihar, then the Parliament of India, then several acres of land in Vijayapura (Karnataka), an area in Kannur, 400 acres of Christian land in Kerala, then the holy land of the Mahakumbha Mela etc. The day is not far away, when the entire Indian subcontinent from Peshawar to Plassey will come under the rule of Waqf as ‘one country’. All this is very strange.

A similar act for Hindus would teach proper lesson to Muslims within 24 hours

At this time, Dr Ranganathan said that all over the world, land-related disputes are resolved through religiously neutral laws. So how can it be accepted that one religious community is oppressing another religious community under the cover of a different law in India? This is a crime. Is there a law like the Waqf Act for Hindus? Make such a law. Those who want the Waqf Act ‘as is’ should remember that Hindus will claim thousands of mosques and Muslim villages across the country. Also, they will not gain control over these lands through the Courts, but through Hindu laws like Waqf. If this happens, remember, they (Muslims) will learn a lesson within 24 hours.
