‘I called Aurangzeb a great administrator based on the information from the historians’ : Shameless statement by SP MLA Abu Azmi

Withdraws statement to ensure smooth functioning of the assembly

Mumbai – “My statement was misinterpreted. I have not insulted anyone. (Praising Aurangzeb, who brutally murdered Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is a gross insult to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj along with 110 crore Hindus – Editor). I respect all the great men like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj. Everyone should respect them. We should move forward considering them as role models. The statement I made about Aurangzeb was based on the information given by the historians; but the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly should not have been adjourned due to my statement. We have a lot of work to do in the Legislative Assembly. Common man’s work is pending. I withdraw my statement so that the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly can run smoothly,” said Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi. He had earlier made statement that ‘Aurangzeb was a good administrator’. He was criticized for this, and the State Government’s budget session was disrupted, and the proceedings were adjourned.

Editorial Perspective

Committing something deplorable and later defending it, has been the modus operandi of people like Abu Azmi. Since no Government has ever taken effective action against him, he gets away with making such absurd statements. To stop such people, the Government should prosecute them for sedition and also take steps to demolish the tomb of Aurangzeb.
