
Mumbai – According to information received in January 2025, a joint operation led by the Anti-Terrorism Squad and local police has resulted in the arrest of 37 Bangladesh nationals in the state. The individuals were apprehended for allegedly obtaining Indian identity cards using forged documents.A total of 18 cases were registered against them at the local police station. 539 Bangladesh nationals residing illegally in the state have been arrested from 2021 to February 15, 2025, and 12 have been deported.Campaigns are regularly conducted to gather information on suspicious Bangladesh nationals, as well as to encourage the reporting of tenant workers to the police when renting properties or employing them, says the information provided by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in response to a query raised in the Legislative Council’s Starred Questions regarding the issue of Bangladesh nationals’ infiltration.
He further said that 154 crimes were registered in Mumbai city and suburbs between January 18, 2025 and February 28, 2025, in which 251 Bangladesh nationals have been arrested. A total of 17 Bangladesh nationals have been repatriated to their hometowns in Bangladesh, while one female national has been extradited.
