Rabat (Morocco) – Morocco, Islamic country, North Africa, the Muslims have been appealed to refrain from goat sacrificing this year on Bakri Eid. The king of Morocco Raja Mohammad VI, himself has appealed to people on Eid-ul-ajha, i.e. Bakri Eid, the most important festival for Muslims.

Morocco’s Minister of Religious Affairs, Ahmad Taufique read the message by Mohammad VI, on TV. The message conveys, “the drought is continuing for last 7 years, consequently the number of livestock has declined. In 10 years, the number has reduced by 38%. This year the average rainfall is less than 53%. The pastures, where the animals could feed have declined drastically. This situation leads to the decision of no sacrifice on Bakri Eid.

Non-vegetarian food prices have skyrocketed in Morocco. A deal has been signed with Australia to control the prices. According to this deal Morocco will import 1 lakh animals from Australia, which includes goats, camels and sheep.

Editorial Perspective

Chances of an appeal like this in Morocco, where Muslim population is 99.7% and Islam is the official religion, people might accept it wholeheartedly. The question is, in a secular country like India, if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeals to people for something like this, will it be accepted by the Muslims and the Congress here ?
