Police issue notice to Mosques in Mumbai for not observing noise control

Mumbai – The Police are issuing notices to the Mosques, which do not follow noise control norm. In a recent check on Jama Masjid in Ghatkopar, the noise level was found more than 55 decibels. The Police issued a notice to Jama Masjid trustees to reduce the volume of the loudspeakers.

There have been many complaints against the 5 times Azaan on the loudspeakers of Jama Masjid, which was beyond the permitted noise level. Despite frequent complaints for many years, there was no Police action. Only a few days ago after the order from Bombay High Court regarding a case, the Police have started acting. Now, along with Chirag Nagar Jama Masjid, the Police are checking the decibel levels of Mosques in various parts of Mumbai. In residential areas the permitted decibel is less than 55 between 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. This norm has been decided according to Noise Pollution Control Act. The Police are issuing notices to those Mosques where the decibel limit is exceeding. After the Police action the Chirag Nagar Muslims have started alleging that all this is being done deliberately and for political gains during elections.

…Then go to Pakistan and Bangladesh – Nitesh Rane, Minister of Port development and Fisheries

Everyone must follow the Court’s directive. The loudspeaker must be within noise limits. If they do not want to comply with the rules, they should go to Pakistan and Bangladesh, said Port Development and Fisheries Minister, Nitesh Rane, 2 days ago, in a press conference. This was his response to the question by journalists on noise limit directive by the Court.

Editorial Perspective

The Police must also check whether the notice is being followed, and if not, act against such Mosques.
