Chaos in Joint Parliamentary Committee Meeting on Waqf Amendment Bill

New Delhi – The proceedings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill were disrupted due to chaos, leading to a temporary suspension of the meeting. Following this, 10 Opposition MPs were suspended from the meeting for the entire day. Opposition members claimed that insufficient time was given to study the proposed amendments in the Bill. They also alleged that the BJP was pushing for the early submission of the Waqf Amendment Bill report in Parliament with an eye on the Delhi Assembly elections.
1. After a meeting in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), committee chairman Jagdambika Pal stated that the final committee meeting would be held on 24th January. Subsequently, the report would be tabled in Parliament during the budget session starting on 31st January.
2. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, a member of the committee, remarked that the committee’s functioning had become a “mockery.” He demanded that the 27th January meeting be postponed to 30th or 31st January. However, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey criticized the Opposition members, accusing them of violating parliamentary traditions and attempting to suppress the voice of the majority.
Editorial Perspective‘MPs lack discipline’, this is the image that has been created before the citizens of the country. To discipline such indisciplined people, it is necessary to impose severe punishment. |
