Former Chinese official sentenced to death for accepting ₹3,000 crore in bribes over 30 years

Beijing (China) – A Chinese court has sentenced Yang Youlin, a former senior official of the Nanjing Economic Development Zone, to death for accepting bribes amounting to nearly ₹3,000 crore. The Court also convicted him of embezzlement of public funds, abuse of power, financial irregularities and other economic offences.

The Court further ordered the confiscation of all his personal assets and directed the authorities to recover the entire amount acquired through illegal means.

According to the prosecution, Yang accepted huge sums of money and valuable assets from industrialists and businessmen while serving in various government positions between 1993 and 2023. In return, he allegedly granted favours by approving projects, allotting land, facilitating business transactions and extending other official benefits.
