Washington (USA) – “If our citizens are residing here (in the US) illegally, and it is confirmed that they are our citizens, we are always ready to take them back,” said India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar during a press conference here. After Donald Trump assumed the US Presidency, he announced plans to deport those residing in the US illegally. It is said that currently, 18,000 Indians are living illegally in the US. Dr Jaishankar expressed India’s stance on this issue and discussed the matter with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Dr Jaishankar stated that India strongly opposes illegal immigration, as it negatively impacts the reputation of countries.
Discussion on Bangladesh
Dr Jaishankar mentioned that he briefly discussed the Bangladesh issue with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. However, he clarified that there was no discussion regarding attacks on Indian consulates in the US. “I did not raise this issue during this visit, but I believe the attack on our consulate in San Francisco was a very serious matter. We expect action to be taken against those involved in the incident,” he said.
Editorial PerspectiveWhile the US deports illegal immigrants, India provides documents, jobs, businesses, and homes to Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas for political gains. Bangladeshi infiltrators are also given the freedom to engage in criminal activities. |
