Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – “We have information that there is a Shivalinga beneath the Chief Minister’s residence. Excavation should also be done there”, Samajwadi Party President and MP Akhilesh Yadav said in a sarcastic remark on 29th December to reporters in Lucknow.
This statement comes against the backdrop of recent events in Uttar Pradesh, where temples are being discovered and wells are being excavated. “To divert the public’s attention, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deliberately raises various issues. The BJP’s path is not of development but of destruction”, Akhilesh added.
Akhilesh Yadav has faced criticism from the BJP
BJP Spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said, “Akhilesh Yadav is upset about the excavation in Sambhal. In 2013, while serving as Chief Minister, Yadav used the entire machinery to excavate 1,000 tonnes of gold. He is interested in digging for gold, but when the excavation leads to finding a Shivalinga, he finds it problematic”.
A week before this, a 250-foot-deep stepwell, dating back to the era of the 1857 revolt, was unearthed during a survey in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal. The stepwell was found after two bulldozers were involved in excavation at the site in the Laxman Ganj area.
The discovery of the stepwell came just days after the ruins of an ancient Banke Bihari Temple were reportedly found in the same area.
