Waqf (Amendment) Bill passed in Rajya Sabha at 2.30 a.m.

New Delhi – On 2nd April at 2.30 a.m., Waqf amendment bill was passed in Lok Sabha after a debate for more than12 hours. In Rajya Sabha the debate continued for more than 12 hours and on 3rd April at 2.30 a.m. the bill got passed with 128 against 95 votes. This bill will go to President Draupadi Murmu. Once her signature is done the bill will become Law.

The Rajya Sabha work continued till 4 a.m. even after the Waqf amendment bill was passed. Later, the House was adjourned and resumed in the morning at 11 a.m. This incident according to the Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, is rare.

After the Waqf amendment bill got passed in both the Houses, Prime Minister posted on X, “Both the Parliament Houses have passed the Waqf amendment bill, which is a significant moment in the efforts of social and economic justice, transparency and all-inclusive development.

This bill will help those Muslims who have been neglected for a long time. For decades, there was a lack of transparency and accountability in Waqf. Consequently, Muslim women and poor Muslims did not get any benefit. The Laws passed by the parliament will increase transparency and protect people’s rights. I thank all the members who participated in the parliamentary committee discussions, those who presented their point of view and those who contributed to strengthen the Laws.
