China building world’s largest dam on the Brahmaputra River

Beijing (China) – China is always conspiring against India. Now, China is going to build the world’s largest dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet, very close to India’s border. The Government of Xi Jinping has approved this dam project and has declared this dam as ‘the biggest project on Earth’. The dam will be constructed on the YarlungTsangpo River, the longest river in Tibet, which is known as the Brahmaputra River in India.The dam will be built in Tibet at a location where the Brahmaputra River bends towards Arunachal Pradesh and then towards Bangladesh.

1. While China will benefit from the construction of this dam, it is a cause of concern for India. The Brahmaputra River flows through several states in India. If China blocks the river by building this dam, it will directly affect these states.

2. China will not only use this dam for hydropower generation but may also use it as a weapon against India. If China decides to release a large amount of water from this dam, it could create flood-like conditions in several states of India.

3. China could create flood-like situations by releasing large amounts of water from this dam to villages near the Indian border.

4. Recognising China’s move, India has taken steps to build a dam on the Brahmaputra in Arunachal Pradesh.

5. Currently, the largest dam in China is the ‘Three Gorges Dam’. This dam holds 40 billion cubic meters of water, and its construction has affected the Earth’s rotation speed. Scientists worldwide have expressed concern over the impact of this dam on the Earth’s rotation, which has slowed down.
