If Eid celebrations and Iftar parties can be organized on university premises, then why is Shriram Navami not allowed ?” – Students question discrimination.
Kolkata – Students of Jadavpur University had planned to celebrate Shriram Navami on the university campus. However, the university administration denied permission for the celebration, sparking strong angry reactions from the students. They questioned the decision, stating, “If Eid celebrations and Iftar parties are allowed on campus, then why is Shriram Navami not permitted ?”
On April 3rd , following a meeting at the Vice Chancellor’s office of Jadavpur University, permission to celebrate Shriram Navami on campus was denied. The administration cited 2 reasons: firstly, that no such permission was granted last year, and secondly, that a new decision cannot be taken in the absence of the Vice Chancellor.

Somasurya Banerjee, a student leading the Ramnavami celebration initiative, expressed his disappointment, stating, “This year, we have decided to celebrate Shriram Navami on campus, and we will not back down. If iftar parties can be held at Jadavpur University, then why can’t we celebrate Ramnavami? We will take legal action against any attempts to obstruct us.”

A member of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), a student group known for its hardline Islamic stance, objected to the celebration of Shriram Navami. The student claimed, “This event is being organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and we will not allow it to be held on the university premises.”
