Samajwadi Party leader Kaish Khan gains control over ancient Shiv temple in Kannauj, UP

  • Shivalinga and Idols thrown into the well

  • Protesting Hindus threatened to be implicated in false cases

Kannauj (UP) – An incident of encroachment on the 200-year-old Shri Jageshwar Nath Shiv Temple in the Balapir area has recently come to light. Samajwadi Party leader Kaish Khan has reportedly gained control over the ancient Jageshwar Nath Shiv Temple and is accused of constructing a three-storey house there. Locals and BJP leaders have claimed that during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party Government, the Shivalinga and idols from the temple were removed and thrown into a well, and construction was carried out on the site.

1. When locals opposed Kaish Khan’s encroachment, he allegedly threatened them and warned them of being implicated in false cases. Following this, Bhura Khan and other local residents lodged a complaint with BJP leaders. BJP’s former MP Subrat Pathak, MLA of Tirwa constituency Kailash Rajput, and other party activists visited and inspected the site on 26th December.

2. BJP leaders said that if the well here is dug, Shivling and other idols might be found. This is a direct attack on Hinduism.

3. The former MP met District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukla and submitted a memorandum, demanding strict action against the leader involved in encroaching the temple land.

4. District Magistrate Shukla assured that a team of officers will soon be sent to the spot and an investigation will be conducted. Considering the seriousness of the matter, he has handed over the investigation to ADM Ashish Kumar and said that a report has been sought in two days and strict action will be taken against the culprits.

5. Former MP Subrat Pathak said that if the administration does not take action to free the temple and re-install the Shivling, he will stage a sit-in protest at the Balapir locality with his supporters.

6. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded the removal of encroachments from the temple land. VHP said that incidents like these hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.

7. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has termed the allegations baseless. He claimed that Kaish had purchased the land, and the religious site is still secure. He accused the BJP of trying to create unrest.

Editorial Perspectives

  • This situation in Hindu-majority Uttar Pradesh is disgraceful for Hindus, and it is not in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Bangladesh. Hindus should press the governments in Muslim-majority areas of the country to free their temples !
  • With religious fanatic and anti-Hindu leaders filling its ranks, the Samajwadi Party will never establish social harmony. This party is dangerous for Hindus !
