Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) – On December 3, a protest was organized by the Hindu Chaitanya Committee and other Hindu organizations demanding an immediate halt to the construction of Mumtaz Hotel near the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park. The protest took place in front of the Tata Nagar Urban Development Authority office. Despite the government revoking the land allocation for the hotel, construction is still ongoing.
Swami Srinivasananda, who participated in the protest, welcomed the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ board decision to return the land near Alipiri. However, he insisted that the construction of Mumtaz Hotel should be halted immediately.
On November 19, 2024, the board passed a resolution urging the state government to cancel the allocation of 20 acres of land near Alipiri for the hotel project. The decision was made to avoid hurting the sentiments of the devotees.
In 2021, the then YSR Congress government proposed a tourism project in Tirupati to boost tourism and employment. The Mumtaz Hotel project, with an initial investment of 250 crores, was planned to be developed over 20 acres, featuring 100 modern bungalows.
