Waqf Board to get Rs 10 crore even before formation of a new Govt in Maharashtra

  • Hindus’ rage leads to withdrawal of this decision

  • Hindus had taken a stand to vote against ‘Mahayuti’ in future

Mumbai – Many instances of Waqf Board claiming rights on Hindus’ religious places across the country have been reported. In addition, the Minority Division of Maharashtra Government had declared Rs 10 crores for the fortification of Waqf Board in the State. On social media, Hindus strongly opposed the decision of providing such huge funds by the caretaker Government before formation of a new Government in the State. After which, Sujata Saunik, the State Chief Secretary, informed the withdrawal of the Government’s order.

In the supplementary budget of Maharashtra Government for the year 2024-25, a provision of Rs 20 crores was made for providing various basic facilities for the fortification of  Waqf Board and Rs 10 crores were already given. The Government issued an order for releasing the balance funds of Rs 10 crores on 28th November 2024. As the news spread on social media, Hindus strongly posted their reactions and expressed severe rage over the order.

Many Hindus posted on social media that they wouldn’t vote for ‘Mahayuti’ in future if it starts taking such decisions even though they voted for ‘Mahayuti’ in these State Assembly elections.

Be ready to face Hindus’ wrath in the forthcoming elections – Mohan Salekar, Secretary, Konkan Division, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)

‘Mahayuti’ Government is doing what even the Congress Government didn’t do. If this decision is not withdrawn, the parties under ‘Mahayuti’ will have to face Hindus’ wrath in the forthcoming local ‘Swarajya Sanstha’ elections.

Action will be taken against the concerned officers – Sujata Saunik, Chief Secretary, Maharashtra Government

When a caretaker Government is managing the State, no decision involving policy issues can be taken as per the law. A few officers from Mantralaya directly issued an order to release Rs 10 crores to Waqf Board; therefore, the Government has withdrawn the order to disburse the funds and decided to take action against the concerned officers. (Editorial Perspective : Saunik should also declare the action proposed to be taken against the concerned officers.)
