Accused Muslim man arrested

Pilibhit (UP) – Amjad, accused of raping and forcibly converting a Hindu girl from Nepal, has been arrested by Police in Pilibhit District. The case was registered against him on 9th September, 2024. Along with Amjad, five others, including his mother Kaiser Jahan, brothers Changez and Rangeela, have been named in the case. Police are actively pursuing the remaining absconding accused.

1. In 2013, the victim, a young woman from Dhangarhi, Nepal, was employed in a private firm. Amjad, a taxi driver from Pilibhit, frequently visited the area. Introducing himself as ‘Ajay,’ he befriended her and lured her to India under the pretence of arranging a job in Delhi.

2. In Kalimnagar, Pilibhit, Amjad confined the victim at his brother-in-law Wahid Khan’s house. There, at gunpoint, he raped her and pressured her to convert to Islam and marry him. His family supported him in these actions. During this period, the victim was moved between various locations in Pilibhit.

3. When the victim refused to convert, she was threatened and given two options : First, marry Amjad, or second, embrace death. Fearing for her life, she converted to Islam in Bareilly. After conversion, her name was changed to Mahroon Nisha, and shewas pressured to eat beef.

4. Following the conversion, Amjad arranged her marriage to his brother Firoz, a divorced man with four children. When she resisted, Firoz and Rangeela assaulted her severely. Another brother, Changez, also repeatedly raped her.

5. The victim later filed a complaint with the Police, leading to the registration of the case.

Editorial Perspective

Despite Uttar Pradesh’s anti-Love Jihad law, it seems to have no deterrent effect on religious fanatic Muslims. Such incidents highlight the need to increase the severity of the punishment under this law to death penalty.
