Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) – Violence erupted over the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid built on the site of Shri Harihar Mandir in Sambhal on 24 November, leading to the deaths of five Muslims. The deceased have been identified as Naim, Bilal, Roman, Kaif, and Ayan.
Police have arrested 25 individuals, including two women, in connection with the incident. A heavy Police presence has been deployed, and flag marches have been conducted in the area. Entry of outsiders has been strictly prohibited, and internet services remain suspended. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from believing rumours and to maintain calm.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi stated that action under the National Security Act will be taken against those involved in the violence.
Tense but calm prevails in the city, homes locked
In the aftermath of the violence, markets and shops in the city remain completely shut. Many houses in the affected areas are locked from the outside. Police patrols have intensified, with roads dominated by Police personnel.
District administration declared a holiday for schools on 25 November, and further closures may be announced if the situation remains tense.
SP leader and MLA’s son booked for incitementCases have been registered in two Police stations regarding the violence. Sambhal’s Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and the son of SP MLA Iqbal Mahmood have been booked for allegedly inciting the rioters. Charges have also been filed against 2,500 people in connection with the unrest.
