Guwahati (Assam) – States need to play a proactive role to prevent illegal immigration from Bangladesh into our country, Sarma said, adding that Assam and Tripura are working very closely in this direction.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today that 138 people trying to enter India from Bangladesh have been detected in the last two months in Assam and Tripura and that the border states must stay vigilant to avoid such infiltration.

Addressing a press conference, Sarma said, “Every day for the last two months, we have been capturing either one or a group of foreigners in our state. Basically, my feeling is that because of the porous boundary between India and Bangladesh, in spite of the best effort by the BSF, there are some people who are still coming into our country.”

“Assam and Tripura are working very closely. Every state government must remain vigilant and they must work very, very closely with the BSF. We are detecting people. If the Bengal government also starts detecting people, I think this will be well-orchestrated and this will be a systematic effort,” he added.

Sarma also said that contrary to the expectation that Hindus from Bangladesh would try to enter India due to the “instability” there, it is mostly Rohingya Muslims who are being detected entering illegally.

Illegal entrants enter into Bengal intercepted by Assam

Chief Minister Sarma further said that some people are being identified. After infiltrating India, they return to Bangladesh and bring new infiltrators. Infiltrators from Bangladesh, who are intercepted by Assam, re-enter through Bengal. If Bengal cooperates, the intruders will not be able to enter India. (Since the infiltrator Muslim-loving Trinamool Congress is in power in Bengal, they get free space to infiltrate India and get all the facilities when they enter, that’s why there is more infiltration.
