• Police claim the attack was due to prior enmity

Deoria (Uttar Pradesh) – In the Mazhuli Raj area here, on 16thOctober, fanatic Muslims attacked the procession of Durga idol immersion. In this incident, two young Hindus were attacked with knives, with one of them being seriously injured. The police arrested Angoor Alam in connection with this case. The police stated that the attack was a result of prior enmity.

The procession reached Shahi Chowk in Madhaliraj when a few Muslim youths infiltrated it and began provoking the Hindu youths. When the Hindus opposed them, they attacked Rajan Patel (19 years old) with a knife, injuring him. When Jitesh Singh tried to rescue him, he was also stabbed and injured. The Muslim youths then fled. The injured were taken to the hospital, and Hindus protested, demanding the arrest of the accused. Later, Angoor Alam was arrested by the police.

Rajan Patel stated that the argument started when the Muslim youths entered the immersion procession and started dancing, leading to a scuffle.

Editorial Perspective

While attacks on Hindu religious processions by fanatic Muslims continue across the country, labelling this incident as ‘an attack due to enmity’ is nothing but an attempt to shield the Muslims. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should take strict action against such police officers.
