Beirut (Lebanon) – 11 people have been killed and more than 4,000 injured so far in a chain of explosions in pagers of Hezbollah terrorists on September 17. The attack took place in Israel’s neighboring country Lebanon. 400 of the injured are reportedly critical. The injured include Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon. Most pagers exploded while in the user’s hands or pockets. More than 500 Hezbollah terrorists have lost their eyes in this blast. Israel is suspected to be behind these blasts.
The Hezbollah used pagers for communication as they are the most secure means for communication. Hezbollah has blamed Israel for the attack. There has been no response from Israel yet. Hezbollah has threatened to avenge Israel for this attack.
It is unclear how so many pagers exploded at the same time, but media reports have claimed that these devices have been tampered with. The New York Times reported that the exploding pagers had recently been imported from a Taiwanese company; but before these pagers were passed on to Hezbollah, they reached the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. Mossad converted the pagers into bombs by inserting small explosives into them. They were detonated by sending commands from outside.

What is a pager ?
A pager is a wireless device, used to send and receive messages. It usually comes with a small screen and a limited keypad. With its help, messages or alerts can be received quickly. The use of pagers was prevalent before mobile phones. Later, its use gradually decreased. They are still used in Lebanon.
