Gang rape case of a minor Hindu girl in Assam

Nagaon (Assam) – In the gang rape case of a 14-year-old Hindu girl in the Dhing area of Nagaon District, the names of three suspects had surfaced. Among them, only Tafazul Islam had been arrested. While the Police were taking him to the crime scene, he attempted to escape by jumping into a pond, resulting in his death. The Police immediately summoned the State Disaster Response Force to retrieve his body from the pond. The constable who had handcuffed him was also injured and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

The victim, a 10th-grade student, was returning home on her bicycle around 8 pm after attending a tuition class when three men on a motorcycle raped her. After the rape, she was left injured and unconscious by the roadside near a lake. Local residents spotted her and informed the Police. In protest of this incident, a large number of people took to the streets, demanding severe punishment for the perpetrators.

Regarding the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the law will not spare criminals who dare to commit such heinous crimes against Hindu girls. After the Lok Sabha elections, a specific section of a community has become highly active and is being incited to commit such crimes; however, we will take strict action against the offenders. No one will be spared.
