Madhya Pradesh High Court slammed the Waqf Board’s lawyers

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – During the hearing of a property case related to the Waqf Board in Madhya Pradesh, a furious Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia of the Madhya Pradesh High Court slammed the Waqf Board’s lawyers. He questioned, “How was the property declared in the Waqf Board’s name ?” When the lawyers couldn’t answer, the judge expressed his frustration, stating, “Tomorrow, you might declare the entire India, including Red Fort and Taj Mahal, as Waqf Board property !”

Justice Ahluwalia asked the lawyers, “If the Waqf Board claims a Government office tomorrow, will it become Waqf property ? Can you declare any property as Waqf property ? I feel like saying that the entire India has been declared Waqf property; how is this possible ?”

The judge also asked if the property related to the Waqf Board is notified as a historical monument.

The lawyer responded that, according to the Ancient Monuments Act, the property can be protected by the relevant Union Government department, but the ownership will remain with the Waqf Board. This property was given to the Waqf Board in 1989.

The judge further questioned, “How was the ownership declared in 1989 ? Before the 1989 notification, who owned this property ? No one knows. Someone just declared it as Waqf property.”
