Banswara (Rajasthan) – In Rajasthan, a Government teacher Menka Damor, who taught tribal women that they are not Hindus, has been suspended. Action has been taken against her under ‘Rajasthan Code of Conduct’. In a meeting held on 19th July at Mangarh Dham in Banswada, Menka appealed to tribal women that ‘do not wear sindoor, nor mangalsutra. Women and girls of tribal society should pay attention to education. Stop all fasting from today. You are not a Hindu.’
Menka’s appeal was first objected to by the women of the tribal community, after which the Education Department of the Government took action against Menka and suspended her. Menka Damor is the founder of ‘Adivasi Kutum Sanstha’ and she is working in Government Higher Secondary School, Sada.
