People from 400 landslide-prone areas to be shifted to safe places

Mumbai, 1st June – In July 2023, the entire Irshalwadi village in the Raigad district of Maharashtra was obliterated due to a single catastrophic landslide killing 27 people and about 100 people went missing. In this background, 400 landslide-prone places have been identified in the State and locals from these places will be shifted to a safer place before monsoon sets in, according to the information given by the State Disaster Management Cell.

More than 100 % of rainfall has been forecast by the Weather Bureau this year. The Municipal Corporations have been instructed to keep their independent disaster response force ready for necessary help along with the State Government. The State Chief Minister reviewed the preparations made by the Navy, the National Disaster Management Force and its State counterpart. Every district has been allocated funds after the meetings of the district planning committees held recently, to provide help during catastrophe.

7,900 volunteers will extend help in case of emergency and will work under the respective district collectors. Districts, prone to flooding problems, have been provided 121 rubber boats, as per their demand.

Disaster Response Force Teams will be operative in ten districts

Disaster response force teams in districts will be operative in Nanded and Gadchiroli. The other districts with disaster response force teams are Raigad, Palghar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Thane and Ratnagiri.
