New Delhi – India’s Chief of Army Staff said the security of the country cannot be outsourced nor can it depend on the generosity of others. He was speaking on 23rdApril 2024 at New Delhi’s All India Management Association’s ‘9thNational Leadership Conclave’, on the topic of ‘Relevance of Hard Power in India’s Rise, and how the Indian Army is shaping capabilities through self-reliance’. General Manoj Pande said, if we think of our capabilities, we are importing technologies that are important, and so dependent on the technology of these countries. We must be clear that if this situation continues then we will always stay behind in the field of arms development.

He added, “Recent geopolitical power plays have shown that countries will not hesitate to go to war when national interests are concerned and these developments have reaffirmed the relevance of hard power. The impact of supply chain disruptions and weaponisation of denial regimes came to the fore during the pandemic and also from the lessons of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

These developments have underscored that the security of the nation can neither be outsourced nor be dependent on the largesse of others. Our goal for winning battles is weapons manufacturing, aerospace, shipbuilding and electronics are some of the sectors where we must create our own equivalent to Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin or Raytheon Technologies, to name a few.”
