New Delhi – India has started supplying BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines. In the year 2022, the two countries signed an agreement worth Rs 3,132 crore for the supply of supersonic missiles. Under this agreement, the first batch of BrahMos supersonic missiles has been sent to the Philippines. The Indian Air Force has sent its C-17 Globemaster Cargo3 aircraft to the Philippines with these missiles. These missiles will be handed over to the Philippine Marine Corps.

The Philippines has acquired the missile system amid rising tensions with China over ongoing skirmishes in the South China Sea. The Philippines will deploy 3 batteries of BrahMos missile systems along its coast to defend itself against any threat in the region. BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia, is a joint venture and is considered one of the most successful missile programmes in the world. BrahMos has played an important role in enhancing India’s defense capabilities.
