
New Delhi – Cancer is one of the major causes of death in the world. Millions of people die every year due to cancer. This number will rise by 2050 as expected by the experts. In 2022, about two crore new cases of cancer were diagnosed across the world. More than 97 lakhs among them died. The number of cancer patients may rise to 3.5 crore by 2050, say researchers. Based on the last ten years’ statistics, it has been observed that there has been a rapid increase in the number of patients affected by this serious and deadly disease in India. Researchers feel that there will be a 12% rise in the number of cancer patients by the end of this decade in India.
With the new developments in technology and medical science, cancer may not be considered an incurable disease; still, it is difficult for ordinary citizens to get treatment due to expensive cancer treatments.
- As per the recently published statistics on non-contagious diseases, the rise of cancer cases in the country is alarming and worrisome.
- In 2020, there were 12 lakh cases of cancer registered in India and among them, 9,30,000 patients succumbed to the disease.
- In India, cases of breast cancer and cancer of the uterus are more commonly found among women, while men are more prone to lung cancer, mouth cancer and prostate cancer.
- Cancer is diagnosed in the last stages in most cases, which makes it difficult to treat such patients.
