Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) – A woman in a ‘live-in relationship’ is also entitled to maintenance expenses due to the establishment of physical relationship. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled that a woman who has been living with a man for a long time must be paid a compensation after separation, even if she is not legally married.
The decision of the lower Court to give a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to a woman in a ‘live-in relationship’ was challenged in the High Court. The High Court said that if there is proof of cohabitation between them, maintenance cannot be denied. Man and woman lived as husband and wife. The woman’s right to maintenance is strengthened by the child born out of that relationship.
