NIA team attacked by mob in Bengal : Two officers injured

NIA team was to nab accused in 2023 bomb blast case

Medinipur (Bengal) – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team was attacked by a mob in the early hours of 6th April 2024 by pelting stones and damaging their vehicles. 2 officers of the team have sustained minor injuries. The incident happened when the NIA team came here to conduct investigations into the 2022 Bhupatinagar bomb blast case. 3 persons had died in the bomb blast. 8 Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders are being interrogated in this case. A few people have been issued notices in this context, but they didn’t attend the inquiry. Later, the NIA team reached to take them into custody when this incident occurred.

ED squad was also attacked in January

Earlier on 5th January 2024, a squad of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had been to the Sandeshkhali area in Bengal when Sheikh Shahjahan, the then TMC leader, was to be taken into custody in connection with a case of land scam. A mob of more than 100 people had attacked the ED squad, injuring an officer.

Editorial Perspective

There has been no law and order in Bengal for several years. People of this country now feel that not imposing the President’s Rule in Bengal is an injustice to the people of Bengal and the security forces there.
