Delhi High Court dismisses Congress’s petition
New Delhi – The Income Tax Department has sent a notice to the Congress party and asked to pay Rs 1,700 crore tax. This notice covers the four financial years from 2017-18 to 2020-21 and includes both penalties and interest. On 28th March 2024, the Delhi High Court dismissed Congress’s petition regarding the tax assessment. Prior to this, the High Court had dismissed Congress’s challenge to the assessment process for the years 2014-15 to 2016-17. (It will not be wrong if the general public feels that the Congress party which is shouting from the rooftop that ‘Democracy in India is under a threat’ is breaking the laws prescribed by the same democracy ! – Editor).
