
New Delhi – The Election Commission has issued an order on 18 th March to remove Director General of Bengal Police Rajeev Kumar along with Home Secretaries of 6 States namely, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gujarat. Apart from Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal,
additional commissioners and deputy commissioners have also been ordered to be removed. The decision was taken in a meeting held on the afternoon of 18 th March by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
Reason behind the decision
The removed officers from the respective States had dual charge in the offices of the Chief Ministers of the respective States. Therefore, the commission said, these officers may compromise the fairness, law and order, deployment of security forces required during the election process.
