UN expresses concern
Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar) – 25 Rohingya Muslims, including some children, were killed and more than 25 injured in an airstrike by Myanmar’s military. The attack was carried out on the night of 18th March in the village of Thada, near Minbya town, Rakhine State. There has been no word from the Myanmar military on the attack, but the UN has expressed its concern. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed grief over the deteriorating situation in Myanmar and escalating conflict and called for an end to the violence while focusing on the safety of the citizens.
Myanmar military launched an extensive armed conflict after seizing power from Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. According to a report, since 2021, there have been 1,652 air strikes in the country in which 936 civilians have been killed. The attacks destroyed 137 buildings for worship, 76 schools and 28 hospitals.
