Rajasthan: 38 Goshalas siphon off crores in government grants by inflating cattle numbers

Recovery notices worth ₹57 crore issued to 38 goshalas

Jaipur (Rajasthan) – A report by the State’s Accountant General (AG) has revealed that 38 goshalas in the State siphoned off crores of rupees in government grants by inflating the number of cattle.

According to the report:

Some goshalas received funds in the name of dead cattle or cattle that did not exist during the grant period.
A major discrepancy was found between the daily cattle records and the information on the website ‘Bharat Pashudhan’. The report states that the grants were approved without proper verification.
Thirty-eight goshalas inflated the number of cattle by 1,31,000 in their applications. The report states that additional funds were released at the rate of ₹40 per day for large cattle and ₹20 per day for small cattle.
Allegations against major goshalas

The report states that Pinjarapole Goshala in Jaipur received an additional grant of ₹1 crore 81 lakh, while Hingonia Goshala received an additional grant of ₹1 crore 41 lakh.

Along with this, the report mentions that additional funds worth ₹16.36 crore were provided to Shri Braj Kamad Surabhi Van Shodh Sansthan Goshala in Deeg district and ₹10.95 crore to Shri Gopal Govardhan Goshala in Pathmeda, Jalore.

Recovery order

Following the AG’s report, the Gopalan Department has ordered the recovery of ₹57.36 crore from the 38 concerned goshalas. Reportedly, however, despite the issuance of three notices, the huge amount has not yet been recovered.

Goshala operators deny allegations

The goshala operators have denied the allegations. They said, “This is not a case of fraudulent grants but of errors in the documents and records. The relevant documents have been submitted to the investigation committee, and the truth will emerge after the inquiry.”

Editorial Perspective

The government should withdraw the recognition of such goshalas.
