Statement by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on the Uniform Civil Code

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) – “If Prabhu Shriram married only once, the same can be expected of Rahim. Muslim women are also our sisters. They too face difficulties in life; therefore, the law should be the same for everyone,” said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav while speaking about the Uniform Civil Code (a common law for people of all religions) at a programme here.
Preparations to introduce the Uniform Civil Code Bill during the Monsoon Session
Dr Mohan Yadav further said that the State Government is completing all the necessary legal procedures for implementing the Uniform Civil Code. An important step in this regard may be taken during the Monsoon Session of the State Assembly commencing on 20 July. The special committee constituted to prepare the draft has submitted its report to the Government. The report has now been forwarded to the Law Department for further legal processing.
More than 10 lakh suggestions and interaction with all sections of society
Chief Minister Dr Yadav said that the Government had held extensive public consultations before implementing the law. The special committee held discussions with representatives of various religions, communities, social organisations and political parties across all 55 districts of the State and collected more than 10 lakh suggestions. The Government is making efforts to implement the law through consensus while respecting the views of all sections of society.
